Acceptable versus Unacceptable?

Mondays tend to roll around no matter if we’re ready for them or not. Sunday morning we got up to a white world.

There was a nice layer of snow on the green grass and with the leaves, some green and some colors, still on the trees. As we walked out the backdoor to go to the van there were mini snowballs falling higgley-piggley all around us. The mini snowballs would have been like some of the sprinkle sized decorations on bakery confections, very tiny perfectly formed white balls.

Setting personal and moral standards—how do we go about such a daunting task. Who and or what is our guide? As scripture tells us, Jeremiah 10:23  O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. And further in Proverbs 14:12, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:13  Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.)

Some things are right and some things are wrong. As I’ve said before we know this to be true. Children are good at detecting these things, yet they are usually a self-serving detector of right and wrong. So, truthfully as another scripture says Jeremiah 17:9  “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Because in the long run whether we admit it or not we adults are just older children and we can also be self-serving detectors.

As I’ve heard: “Trust me ladies (or men) God will not send you someone else’s husband (or wife) as an answer to your prayers.” Yet, in our journey, people say, “I found my perfect soul-mate, but they were already married (to someone else)… and this is how we justify our self-servingness.

“The word (unacceptable) has a very specific meaning, which is why it’s so powerful.

If we accept behavior that’s unacceptable, we’re compromising on something that we thought was too important to compromise on.

And that’s how we end up with the unacceptable becoming commonplace.” From Seth Godin…

So, you see in our common society it’s become acceptable for fathers to father children then abandon them (we are told that we don’t want a patriarchy) so the almighty government can step in. We also see in our common society it has become acceptable for mothers to fight for the right to kill their own babies (in the name of ‘women’s rights) so the almighty government can step in.

And now it is a short step to euthanasia where us old people who aren’t productive any longer can be ‘taken care of’ in a final goodbye. Well, there you have it, when someone other than an Almighty God sets themselves up in the place of that God, the question becomes who is to have the final say as to what is acceptable or unacceptable?

Genesis 7:

13)  In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;

14)  They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.

15)  And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16)  And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
